Be Mighty Little Rock AmeriCorps VISTA

Serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA is your chance to be the greater good. VISTA members commit to working at the Central Arkansas Library System for twelve months. Program Benefits include training, choice of education award or end of service stipend ($6,075), health coverage, childcare assistance if eligible, stipend ($12,311), and relocation allowance.

This Be Mighty Little Rock AmeriCorps VISTA will develop and implement marketing and communications strategies to expand services of USDA meal programs in high-need areas of Little Rock. They will assist with Be Mighty outreach at community events. This member will recruit and manage Be Mighty volunteers to assist at community events, with meal distribution, food security screenings and referrals, and nutrition education.

Garden and Nutrition Education Facilitator

Be Mighty Little Rock is seeking a temporary part-time (10-20hrs/week) garden and nutrition education facilitator to oversee the Be Mighty garden program and integrating it into the nutrition education curriculum. The position is currently funded through December but we anticipate it will be funded through June 2022. Essential duties include conducting in-person and virtual instruction, coordinating new partnerships with community organizations, preparing recipe kits, and creating and maintaining a nutrition education program data tracking system.

In this role, the garden and nutrition education facilitator will connect Be Mighty to CALS gardens. As it stands, there is a garden at Children’s Library, another has broken ground at Millie Brooks Library, and soon there will be one at McMath Library as well. The gardens at Millie Brooks and McMath will need to be developed with the local community and long-term sustainability in mind.

Interested candidate should be energetic, possess strong organization and communication skills, have a passion for food & gardening, and work well with kids. Experience teaching nutrition education for all ages is a plus. Applicants must be available to work occasionally on nights and weekends and have reliable transportation to get to and from each CALS location. Salary starts at $14.05 and includes holiday pay.
